Our team from Feisst Electrical, with the support of sister company Structured Technologies, delivered the full electrical and structured cabling scope for this major development. Works included wiring and installing the customer-supplied 1MVA containerised generator and UPS system and integrating a Dynalite Lighting Control System designed in collaboration with Direct Controls.
Taking a proactive approach to design and coordination, we drafted and developed our own cable tray shop drawings from the BIM model to prevent clashes with other services such as sprinklers, mechanical, and hydraulics. Over 1.3km of cable tray was installed throughout the store.
Additionally, we created shop drawings for high-bay lighting in the retail area, ensuring alignment with the retail racking layout.
The tight 40-week construction timeframe presented its challenges, with last-minute design changes and additions still being made with 2-3 weeks to go until opening.
One example was the three external signage pylons, which required 20A feeds for LED advertising screens. With most existing ducts already full and the carpark completed, we had to get creative, rerouting power directly from the main switchboard.
Similarly, we worked closely with individual departments - including the bakery, butchery, and deli, to bridge the gap between design and operational requirements, often delivering the necessary adjustments on the same day.
One of the most impressive aspects of this project was the sheer scale of the electrical installation. More than 5000m of 300mm single-core fire-rated flexible cable was installed for the service and generator mains—an enormous feat for a retail development of this size.
Another remarkable fact about this $100M project is its 7,000 sqm of retail space, which has created 250 local jobs and made a significant contribution to the community.
